Recovery from an injury occurs over time and is marked by fluctuations and stabilizations of physical status, emotional status, functional status, as well as treatment and support plans. The recovery time frame is divided into 4 stages: Acute, Post Acute, Rehabilitation and Discharge. Fall Prevention and Rehabilitation utilizes internal case management to insure consistency with clinically supported symptoms, diagnosis or indications of the injured person(s) and that the level of care is in accordance with the standards of good practices and standard professional treatment protocols.
Our programs include but are not limited to:
BALANCE AND VESTIBULAR DISORDERS
The most common symptoms of vestibular disorders are dizziness, unsteadiness when walking, vertigo (a spinning sensation that occurs with eyes open or closed) and nausea. These symptoms may be mild, lasting just minutes, or severe, which can result in total disability. In addition, people with vestibular disorders may suffer headaches, muscular aches in the neck and back, increased tendency to suffer from motion sickness and increased sensitivity to noise and bright light. Certain position changes and/or head or eye movements often provoke these symptoms. Diagnosis for vestibular disorders requires a thorough patient history along with a comprehensive clinical evaluation. A general assessment will include range of motion, sensation, strength, coordination, and functional mobility skills, along with those involved in the activities of daily living. More specific tests could include a VNG which tests the function of the vestibular system, balance and gait assessment, and evaluation of positional changes. Based on the results of your VNG, our therapists develop an individualized treatment program to maximize recovery for each patient. The program may include visual training, positioning maneuvers and general conditioning exercises. Our experience in this field has demonstrated that 80 to 90 percent of all people with balance and/or vestibular disorders can benefit from specialized therapy programs.
WORKERS COMPENSATION PROGRAM
Employers pay more than 15 to 20 billion dollars in worker's compensation costs each year. Eighty percent of workplace injuries are due to worker habits and more than half are musculoskeletal (sprains and strains) in nature. Industrial injuries have a tremendous impact on both the worker and employer. We understand the importance of the mechanism of injury correlating to diagnosed pathology, plus the need for an efficient and safe return to work. Our objective is to effectively partner with employers to reduce the costs of work-related injuries by focusing on improving workplace design and injury prevention and management. This goal is accomplished through a proactive and integrated team approach which includes the employee, the employer, the physician, the case manager, the clinician and other key members.
MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS
Back pain, neck pain, chronic pain, post-surgical pain and other sources of physical discomfort are addressed by combining therapy with education and behavior modification to help individuals gain control of their pain and improve their quality of life. Musculoskeletal Disorders are those that affect the bones, muscles and joints. They are characterized by chronic pain and limited mobility.
ORTHOPEDIC REHABILITATION
Soft tissue disease (degenerative joint disease), total hip or knee replacement, sustained trauma to a bone, such as a fracture. These individuals often experience limited mobility due to pain, weakness and limited range of motion, the focus is on helping patients regain their strength, mobility and endurance so they can return home and resume their regular routines.
FIBROMYALGIA
Fibromyalgia is a condition, predominantly in women, which causes chronic musculoskeletal pain and fatigue without any detectable inflammation. Symptoms are often aggravated by changes in weather, hormonal fluctuation, stress, depression and overexertion. Treatment may include medication, chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, relaxation techniques, methods to improve sleep and involvement in a pain management program.
REPETITIVE MOTION DISORDERS
Repetitive Motion Disorders are the result of repetitive motions and/or sustained postures. Characterized by pain and limited mobility, repetitive disorders usually affect the wrist, elbow, hand, shoulder and neck. The most common disorders include carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, thoracic outlet syndrome and trigger finger.
CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a debilitating condition characterized by a collection of symptoms including sore throat, low grade fever, muscle aches, vertigo and severe fatigue that does not dissipate with rest. Treatment is geared toward relieving specific symptoms and altering lifestyles.
WOMEN'S HEALTH
Our women's health program focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, education and support for those physical conditions that women face at different stages of their lives. These conditions include, Pre and Post Natal Pain, Osteoporosis, Post Mastectomy and Incontinence.
NEUROPATHY
Neuropathy results from injury to the peripheral nerves which carry the impulses between the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to the muscles, skin and internal organs. It causes impaired muscle movement and abnormal sensation and pain, especially in the hands and feet. With early diagnosis and treatment, a neuropathy's progression can be slowed. Treatment often includes drug intervention and physical therapy.
